Today and the days ahead: Agile prices for North West England, with the wind, solar and demand picture that drives them.

Agile prices

Solid bars are Octopus's published prices; lighter bars are EPEX-30 estimates and outlined bars early N2EX estimates. Beyond that, hatched bars are model estimates from the weather and gas forecast — a rough guide, not prices, and replaced as real prices arrive. Hover for details.

Renewables vs demand

The closer the wind and solar get to the demand line, the more of GB's electricity is coming from cheap renewables, and the cheaper wholesale (and Agile) prices tend to be. A big gap means gas is filling it. A dashed demand line marks estimated rather than published demand.

Residual demand — the gap gas fills

What's left after wind, solar, nuclear and biomass have done their bit: the share of demand that flexible (mostly gas) plant must cover. When it's low, wholesale prices sag, sometimes below zero; when it spikes, expensive plant sets the price. Actual half-hourly outturn from NESO, then estimated forward. National, not regional.
